Child Abuse Charges - Person in Authority

Child Abuse Squad detectives have charged a 34-year-old man with child abuse related offences which are alleged to have occurred between 2019 and 2021, while he held a position of authority.
The incidents were reported to police in April 2023. The man met the male victims, who were teenagers at the time of the alleged offences, through his youth engagement role at a church based in the southern suburbs. It will be alleged the man indecently dealt with both victims, and committed other offences.
The 34-year-old Thornlie man was arrested by Child Abuse Squad detectives yesterday, Friday 7 April 2023.
In relation to the first alleged victim, he has been charged with the following offences which are alleged to have been committed in 2019:
- 2 x Person in Authority Indecently Dealing with a Child
- 1 x Procure a child over 16 under their care to do indecent act
- 1 x Incites a child over 16 under their care to engage in sexual behaviour
In relation to the second alleged victim, he has been charged with the following offences which are alleged to have been committed in 2021:
- 8 x Indecently Deals with a Child Over 13 Under 16
- 4 x Procured a child of or over 13 and under 16 to do an indecent act
He was refused bail and is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today, Saturday 8 April 2023.
