Christmas is fast approaching and you can support families in need by making a donation to the Salvation Army's Christmas Appeal at the Swan Valley Visitor Centre.

City of Swan Mayor David Lucas said the SVVC has hosted a Salvation Army Christmas Appeal for 16 years and counting.

"We participate in this Christmas appeal every year because we know a lot of people in our community are doing it tough, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising costs of living," he said.

"Every year, I am heartened by the generosity of our community given the amount of donations we receive.

"If you have the means, we encourage you to support the Salvos with a donation to the Christmas Appeal at our Visitor Centre to ensure no one goes without food on the table or a present under the tree this Christmas."

Non-perishable food with long expiry dates including pasta sauces, meal kits, breakfast cereals, and tinned vegetables are welcome, as are Christmas items and personal hygiene and cleaning products.

Those donating might also like to consider food that will suit families with young children, people with allergies, the elderly or new Australians.

Supermarket vouchers that allow recipients to purchase fresh produce are also encouraged, as are unwrapped gifts and gift cards.

The SVVC are accepting donations until 11am on Sunday, December 11.

The Swan Valley Visitor Centre is located on the corner of Meadow and Swan Streets in Guildford, and is open seven days a week from 9am to 4pm.
