A new playground for families in Ballajura is one step closer to reality thanks to a $2 million grant from Lotterywest to the City of Swan.
The new playground will bring people of all ages and abilities together, with fun equipment and features that encourage active involvement for children, parents, grandparents and carers.
Features include junior and toddler play equipment, trampolines, exercise equipment, an obstacle course, a climbing wall and more.
David Lucas, City of Swan Mayor, thanked Lotterywest for its $2 million contribution to the project.
"We are pleased to have secured Lotterywest funding, which is a worthy investment for our growing community," he said.
"This playspace has been a priority of ours for many years, as we know it will address the needs of the growing Ballajura community – which will increase to 22,419 people by 2051 – and surrounding areas.
"More than 16 per cent of Ballajura households have children and 25.6 per cent of the surrounding area is aged between 0 and 17 years, so this is the perfect spot for the playspace."
Bryce Parry, Whiteman Ward Councillor, said the new playspace would be close to schools and public transport, making it easily accessible for all.
"Not only that, it will have amazing features that will draw the young and young at heart from other areas," he said.
Mel Congerton, Whiteman Ward Councillor, said the City was thrilled to be able to deliver the project for the community.
"We have listened to our community, who told us during an extensive consultation period that they wanted more playgrounds for their kids," he said.
"I look forward to seeing this space enjoyed by our community for generations to come.
Dr Anne Aly MP, Member for Cowan, congratulated the City on securing the funding.
"This is a great example of a local government listening to its community and delivering on what they have asked for," she said.
The new playground is set to be built at Oxleigh Drive Parkland, on the corner of Illawarra Crescent South and Cassowary Drive in Ballajura.
