Closure of Kirwan Station's Operation DEXTER, Townsville District

Police yesterday closed Operation Dexter which commenced in June 2018 targeting the trafficking and supply of dangerous drugs within the Kirwan Division and the greater Townsville District.

The operation was undertaken by general duties officers from the Kirwan Police Station and has resulted in the seizure of the dangerous drugs Methylamphetamine and Cannabis and $184,495 in cash.

Another Search Warrant executed in Rasmussen on December 21 resulted in the seizure of numerous drug utensils, digital scales, clip seal bags, two clip seal bags containing cannabis, one clip seal bag containing sixty cannabis seeds and a mobile phone.

Officers conducted an electronic forensic examination of all electronic devices seized during the execution of the various Search Warrants and tactical action undertaken during Operation DEXTER resulting in substantial evidence of the trafficking and supply of dangerous drugs being located by police.

Closure of the operation has seen the following charges laid:

A 19-year-old Railway Estate man has been charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs, sixteen counts of supplying dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence and possessing utensils or pipes that had been used.

Police will allege the 40-year-old woman and 19-year-old man are Mother and Son, and that they conjointly committed these offences together as co-offenders.

A 44-year-old Kirwan man has been charged with one count each of supplying dangerous drugs, and possessing property suspected of being proceeds of drug offences, two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count of possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence.

A 19-year-old Rasmussen woman has been charged with fourteen counts of supplying dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing utensils or pipes etc that had been used and possessing anything used in the commission of crime.

All of these people are now before the courts.

Officer in Charge of the Kirwan Police Station Senior Sergeant Jason Brosnan said the operation, its resulting seizures and charges laid are a great result that highlights the excellent work performed across the district by uniformed officers.

"Without information from the public these types of results could not be achieved, and the public working with police can make a difference. This result has clearly disrupted an ongoing criminal enterprise which has flow on effects to property crime," he said.

Following the introduction of Queensland consorting legislation, officers have been targeting and issuing 'criminally recognised offenders' with preventative consorting notices. These preventative notices serve to disrupt organised crime and associated criminal behaviour which serves as a nexus between property, traffic and drug related offences.

As such throughout this operation a number of persons have been issued with these preventative consorting notices, prohibiting them from consorting with other recognised offenders.
