This will reduce emissions in the order of 400 tonnes a year and will vastly improve safety and comfort for CLC's patrons and employees, especially during heatwaves.
The Australian Government has provided $2.9 million via its Thriving Suburbs program to upgrade the Centre from gas to electricity and to improve cooling and dehumidification of the pool and spa hall.
These upgrades will improve energy efficiency, remove fossil fuel gas and enable net-zero emissions through 100% renewable energy.
Mayor Stephen Jolly said the upgrades are a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions.
"By electrifying Collingwood Leisure Centre, we will reduce carbon emissions by close to 400 tonnes each year," he says.
"These works will help us realise our goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2035," says the Mayor.
While these pre-works are underway, the pool will continue to operate as normal.
