"Connections" A Reflective Exhibition By Col Strauss

Connections Art Exhibition Col Strauss

Federation Council is delighted to announce its upcoming exhibition, 'Connections', a captivating collection of works by talented artist and photographer Col Strauss hosted at the Corowa Art Space. The exhibition will run from Friday, May 2nd to Tuesday, May 20th, 2025.

A graduate of the esteemed Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education, Strauss has cultivated a rich and diverse creative journey through teaching, community involvement, and a dedicated exploration of photography and digital art. His latest foray into creative photography sees him masterfully blend traditional photographic techniques with the boundless possibilities of digital artistry.

'Connections' invites viewers on an introspective journey, prompting reflection on the intricate and beautiful threads that interweave the tapestry of their lives. Strauss's evocative pieces serve as a powerful catalyst for reminiscence, aiming to stir deep-seated memories and emotions, transporting audiences back to cherished moments and significant locations. The exhibition beautifully illustrates the fundamental human desire for belonging and the profound emotional significance of our relationships – with family, friends, time, place, nature, and our beloved pets.

Col Strauss describes his unique artistic approach as deeply rooted in his fine art background, explaining, "I use photography and then apply painting techniques with digital tools—it is not AI," Mr Strauss said.

"I don't agree with letting a computer generate art instead of the artist, as I believe the artist should remain at the forefront of the creative process. I'm physically using traditional painting techniques, but with a digital brush and digital canvas."

He further elaborates on his process, stating, "I love working this way; it allows me to have greater control over my work, unifying colour schemes and creating custom digital brushes for specific effects like foliage or hair."

Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook said Council was looking forward to the upcoming exhibition.

"We are incredibly proud to welcome Col Strauss and his thought-provoking exhibition, 'Connections,' to the Corowa Art Space," Mayor Cook said.

"Col's unique approach to blending photography and digital painting promises a truly engaging experience for our community and visitors. The themes of connection and belonging resonate deeply, and I encourage everyone to visit the Art Space to reflect on the beautiful threads that bind us together."

'Connections' will be open to the public at Corowa Art Space from Friday, May 2nd until Tuesday, May 20th, 2025. The gallery's operating hours are Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, and Saturday to Sunday, 10am to 2pm.
