Coronavirus update for Victoria - Sunday 12 September

Victoria was notified of 392 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. All were locally acquired cases.

There are 3,112 active cases in Victoria - 3,108 locally acquired and four overseas-acquired cases.

There are 147 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria. 34 of those cases are in intensive care, with 28 cases on a ventilator. Of the cases in hospital yesterday, only one was fully vaccinated.

The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 25,128. Eight historic cases were reclassified yesterday.

Vaccines

Yesterday there were 36,534 vaccine doses administered by Victoria's state-commissioned services.

The total number of doses administered through these services is 2,834,159.

The Victorian Government is launching a significant community pop-up vaccination program, targeting 100 priority postcodes across Melbourne. For more information, see the Premier's Statement on New Pop-Up Vax Sites.

From today, any pregnant woman in Victoria in the later stages of pregnancy, from 24 weeks onwards, and those with complicated or high-risk pregnancies as determined by their health care provider, can access reserved Pfizer vaccination appointments in the state system.

All Year 11 and 12 students sitting VCE Unit 3&4 exams can also book priority appointments for COVID-19 vaccination until Sunday 19 September. Booking information has been provided directly to eligible families.

From 23 September, freight and healthcare workers entering Victoria under the Specified Worker (Multiple Entry) Permit must have had at least one vaccination dose before entry.

Evidence can be documentation from the vaccine provider of your first dose or your COVID-19 digital certificate which is accessible through Commonwealth myGov account.

Workers will need to apply for a new permit if their current permit expires after 23 September and confirm that they have received their vaccine dose to be eligible for this permit.

Under the current directions, getting vaccinated is not a reason to travel from metropolitan Melbourne and Greater Shepparton (both currently classified as restricted zones) to a non-restricted regional area and vice versa.

There may be occasions when the Department is unable to make contact with a business or residential premises before their listing as an exposure site. At all times, we take the decision of when to publish these sites in the interests of public health.

The Department regularly manages exposure sites that it doesn't publish online, particularly if these sites represent lower-risk exposure, or if they have comprehensive record-keeping and contact-tracing measures, or if they identify small, private locations - including smaller apartment or townhouse complexes.

COVID-19 wastewater detection in Ballarat

There have been repeat unexpected wastewater detections in the Ballarat South area from samples collected over the last fortnight.

The detections could be the result of a person in the area who has recovered from COVID-19 but is still shedding the virus or it could be an undiscovered new case.

Anyone who lives, works or has visited the following suburbs is urged to watch for the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms and to get tested as soon as possible if symptoms develop:

Alfredton, Bakery Hill, Ballarat Central, Ballarat East, Ballarat North, Black Hill, Bonshaw, Brown Hill, Buninyong, Canadian, Cardigan, Delacombe, Eureka, Golden Point, Invermay Park, Lake Gardens, Lake Wendouree, Lucas, Mount Clear, Mount Helen, Mount Pleasant, Nerrina, Newington, Redan, Sebastopol, Smythes Creek, Soldiers Hill, Warrenheip and Wendouree.

More information about wastewater testing is available at Wastewater testing.

Testing

48,063 tests were processed in Victoria yesterday.

We are increasing our testing capacity in the northern and western suburbs and in the Geelong and Ballarat areas in response to recently detected cases.

Getting tested as soon as you have symptoms will help health authorities identify new positive cases and provide proper care for your family.

If you are concerned about losing money from missing work, support is available - including the $450 test isolation payment. For more information, go to Financial and other support for COVID-19.

To find your nearest COVID-19 testing site, visit Where to get tested for COVID-19. Operating hours and wait times will vary.
