Correctional officer charged after receiving $40,000 to smuggle contraband

A Corrective Services NSW officer has been charged as part of an ongoing investigation into the introduction of contraband into a South Coast facility.

In September this year, detectives from South Coast Police District commenced an investigation following reports of corrupt activity by a female correctional officer.

Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested a 31-year-old woman at a home at Worrigee about 9.15am today (Wednesday 30 December 2020).

She was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with supply prohibited drug, agent corruptly receive benefit, holder of public office misconduct herself, recklessly deal with proceeds of crime (money/property) and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

Police will allege in court that the woman, who is a Corrective Services NSW employee, received financial benefits of $40,000 from family members of two male inmates to traffic prescription medication and prohibited drugs into the facility.

The woman was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Nowra Local Court on Monday 25 January 2021.

Investigations are continuing.
