Council delighted by new Ag Visa

Swan Hill Rural City Council is delighted that this week the Federal Government has delivered a vital agricultural visa, to help secure the future of our region.

Mayor Bill Moar said Council had been advocating for the visa for quite some time and were thrilled with the outcome.

"Agriculture is the main industry within our region - we produce more than 40 commercially grown products.

"Agriculture is a multi-billion dollar industry, with our municipality producing one quarter of Australia's carrots, 70 per cent of Australia's almonds, 60 per cent of Australian table grapes, and an ever-growing crop of commercial avocados.

Cr Moar extended his thanks to the Federal Government for listening to our concerns and delivering this visa, for regional Victorians.

"The Agricultural Worker Visa will provide a long term, reliable, available and legal workforce for our critical industries, solving one of our regions greatest challenges," Cr Moar said.

The agriculture visa is expected to be in place no later than 30 September of this year.
