Federation Council is officially calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from proactive residents, primary producers and business operators in the Western half of its local government area (LGA) to join the new Roads Advisory Committee.
Following an initial call for applications in May 2026, Council received seven EOI's covering Quadrant 3 (Corowa/Howlong) and Quadrant 4 (Urana/Boree Creek). To ensure every region and road user sector, including farming, business, and residential is fairly represented, Council is now specifically calling for nominations for:
- Quadrant 1 (Morundah & Oaklands) - 2 positions
- Quadrant 2 (Mulwala & Rennie) - 2 positions
Established to create a collaborative bridge between the community, and Council decision makers, the committee provides vital local information, comment and strategic feedback on the management, service levels and maintenance of Council's extensive road network.
Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook said local insights are incredibly valuable when it comes to managing regional infrastructure.
"Our road network is the backbone of our community, supporting our agricultural sector, freight logistics and daily commuters," Mayor Cook said. "We want to ensure that people who use these roads everyday have a direct seat at the table to help us prioritise our four year road renewal programs and review our maintenance strategies."
The scope of the committee is strictly focused on Council owned and controlled public roads, bridges and regional roads. It operates in a supportive, advisory capacity to Council's engineering teams, meaning it does not hold independent delegated authority, and its scope does not include footpaths, kerb and channel or street lighting.
Positions are voluntary and run for a two year term, with meetings held quarterly on the third Wednesday of February, May, August and November. While in person attendance is preferred, flexible options to attend meetings electronically are available to ensure the committee remains accessible.
Applicants must reside within the Federation Council western area, specifically Morundah, Oaklands, Mulwala and Rennie and will be selected based on their local network, communication skills and knowledge of network maintenance challenges. Council will aim for a balanced mix of road users, including representation for farming, freight, business and residential sectors.
Interested candidates should lodge an Expressions of Interest via the online form available from Council's website before close of business on Wednesday 26 August, 2026.
Following the nomination period, an assessment panel will review the applications before they are formally endorsed at a Public Meeting of Council.
