Council Updates Hampton Park Central Plan

The future of Hampton Park Central has taken an important step forward with the City of Casey adopting the updated Hampton Park Central Development Plan at Tuesday's Council Meeting.

The updated plan provides a strategic framework to guide future development and investment decisions within Hampton Park Central Major Activity Centre. It will help shape the area's growth and renewal, supporting its evolution as a vibrant, well-connected centre for shopping, services, employment, housing and community life.

Community engagement took place earlier this year with more than 170 community members contributing feedback on the future of the centre. More than 81% of respondents backed plans for a more connected, people-focused and adaptable activity centre.

Importantly, Council also adopted additional resolutions in response to key concerns raised by the community throughout the consultation process relating to rubbish dumping and poorly maintained private land, accessibility issues and overall pedestrian safety.

City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said residents had made it clear they wanted to see improvements not only through future planning but also through better maintenance and accessibility outcomes in the centre today.

"Our community strongly supports the future vision for Hampton Park Central, but they also told us they want action on issues that affect their daily experience of the centre right now," he said.

"A better Hampton Park Central requires a partnership approach. As much of the land within the centre is privately owned, Council is unable to invest or undertake works on these private sites. That's why Council is calling on landowners to take greater responsibility for maintaining their properties, improving cleanliness and presentation of the centre so that Hampton Park Central is a place the community can be proud of.

"We're also encouraging major landowners to work with Council to help deliver pedestrian safety and accessibility upgrades, particularly for people living with disability and other with mobility needs. By working together, we can create a safer, more accessible and welcoming centre for everyone who visits, lives, works and does business in Hampton Park."

The updated plan introduces greater flexibility to support development outcomes while maintaining important objectives around walkability, connectivity, urban design, public spaces and environmental sustainability.
