Councillor Cassy Borthwick has been elected the new Mayor of Macedon Ranges Shire Council at an unscheduled Council Meeting held on Tuesday 4 August.

Cr Borthwick will serve as Mayor until the next Mayoral election in November when Council is expected to elect a Mayor for the following 12-month term, in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020. While councillors are elected for four-year terms, Victorian councils elect a Mayor annually from among the elected councillors.

Mayor Borthwick said she was honoured to have the confidence of her fellow councillors and grateful for the opportunity to serve the community.

"It's not often I'm lost for words," Cr Borthwick said.

"I am honoured to have the confidence of my fellow councillors and to serve as Mayor of Macedon Ranges Shire Council."

"In recent days, I have been reminded that local government is at its best when it remains close to its community. Through conversations with residents, we continue to learn from their experiences, concerns and aspirations."

"Good governance matters because it helps build trust and confidence in the Council we serve. My focus will be on leading fairly, supporting transparent decision-making and ensuring every councillor has the opportunity to contribute."

"I look forward to working collaboratively with my fellow councillors, Council staff and our communities to continue delivering on the priorities that matter most to our residents and to build on the important work already underway across the shire."

Councillor Daniel Young was also elected Deputy Mayor and will serve in the role until the next Mayoral election in November.
