Construction has begun on sections of the Macarthur Recreation Trail, with new pathways helping fill important gaps in the network and build towards a long-term vision to connect the Camden and Campbelltown CBDs.
The project will see almost 3km of new and improved pathways, improving connections for people walking and cycling and providing an alternative way to access public transport, including Campbelltown Station.
"The Macarthur Recreation Trail project is an important step towards creating better connections for our community and making it easier to walk and cycle between the places people live, work and visit," said Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Darcy Lound.
"Once complete, these new shared pathways will open up more opportunities for people to get active, enjoy our open spaces and connect with public transport and local destinations," said Cr Lound.
"Providing these critical connections across Campbelltown so that people can more easily travel in our community is something so important," said Member for Campbelltown, Greg Warren MP.
"The NSW Government is proud to be working with Campbelltown City Council to provide this valuable outcome for our community, delivering a range of ways to access public transport and the city centre," said Mr Warren.
This project will deliver:
- 1.42 kilometres through the Australian Botanic Garden, where the new pathway will connect with shared use paths in the Camden Local Government Area
- 1.43 kilometres from Gilchrist Oval and along Bow Bowing Creek to Farrow Road, where it will connect with existing pathways leading towards Campbelltown Station and the Campbelltown City Centre.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by early 2027.
This project is proudly funded by the NSW Government and Campbelltown City Council through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.
