A stunning new mural by Mornington Peninsula artist Daniel van de Wiel is making a splash at Crib Point Pool.
Created to celebrate the pool's 50-year milestone, its connection to community and the local landscape, the mural reflects local birdlife and the relaxed rhythm of coastal life that has shaped generations of summers since 1975. The final design was shaped by consultation with the community, following a process that invited locals to vote on their preferred concept - ensuring the artwork truly reflects a shared sense of place.
Known for his large-scale public artworks and expressive visual style, Daniel's mural brings movement and warmth to the space, transforming the pool surrounds into a welcoming visual landmark for locals and visitors.
Daniel said creating the mural was about reflecting the energy and nostalgia tied to outdoor pools, as well as the immediate environment and ecosystems surrounding the pool's location.
"I wanted the mural to feel vibrant, playful and connected to the natural environment, much like summer at the pool," he said. "Crib Point Pool is a beautiful place and holds so many shared memories, and it was special to reflect that."
Mornington Peninsula Shire Council Acting Mayor Cr Paul Pingiaro said the mural reflects the important role public spaces play in bringing communities together.
"Crib Point Pool has been part of local life for 50 years and this artwork captures the joy, colour and sense of belonging people feel here," he said.
Warringine Ward Councillor Michael Stephens said the pool holds a special place in the hearts of the Crib Point community.
"Being able to choose the mural design is a lovely way for locals to see those shared experiences reflected," he said.
