- Crucial upgrades are officially underway for the Goondiwindi Regional Council project.
- Investment overturns a decade of decline under Labor, which neglected growing regional communities.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a plan for Queensland's future with a $2.75 million investment in critical upgrades for Goondiwindi Regional Council.
The vital project will ensur residents in Texas have access to clean, safe and modern water and wastewater facilities for years to come.
Work is already underway to construct a new pump station and associated infrastructure at the Texas Sewage Treatment Plant, along with a connecting pipeline and effluent disposal system that includes three pivot irrigators.
Under Labor's decade of decline, regional water and wastewater infrastructure was neglected and locked behind bureaucratic red tape, leaving growing communities without the essential systems they deserve.
This funding from the 2024-28 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program is supporting council to deliver the project, modernising local infrastructure to meet the community's demands.
Minister for Local Government and Water Ann Leahy said the Crisafulli Government was focused on ensuring local councils had resilient infrastructure for their growing communities.
"I am delighted to see the huge amount of work being done on this essential project," Minister Leahy said.
"Wastewater and sewerage are two things we don't often think about once it goes down the drain, but this significant project will not only meet the demands for the Texas community for many more years, it will also safely repurpose the effluent available locally.
"The Crisafulli Government will continue to back councils like Goondiwindi to ensure their critical infrastructure is fit for purpose and meeting the needs of the community."
Member for Southern Downs James Lister said the investment demonstrated the Crisafulli Government's commitment to regional Queenslanders.
"The Crisafulli Government has made available $2.75 million in funding which will reduce costs for council," Mr Lister said.
"This is a great investment for the small towns in the Southern Downs and I look forward to seeing the completion of this project."
Goondiwindi Regional Council Mayor Lawrence Springborg AM thanked the Queensland Government for this significant investment in essential infrastructure.
"This upgrade will replace ageing infrastructure and ensures we can continue to deliver safe and compliant wastewater management well into the future," said Cr Springborg.
