Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Dr. Toni Choueiri, Director of the Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology, was recently elected to one of the nation's most prestigious medical organizations, The Association of American Physicians (AAP).
"It is a tremendous honor to join this esteemed group of physicians," said Choueiri. "I am deeply grateful for the mentors and collaborators who have shaped my work, as well as the patients who inspire our efforts. This recognition reflects the strengths of the teams I have had the privilege to work alongside."
The AAP is an honorary medical society founded in 1885 by the Canadian physician Sir William Osler and six other distinguished physicians for "advancement of scientific and practical medicine." Each year election is limited to 70 physicians with outstanding credentials in basic or translational biomedical research.
In addition to serving as Director of the Lank Center, Choueiri is also co-lead of the Kidney Cancer Program at The Harvard Cancer Consortium and the Jerome and Nancy Kohlberg Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Choueiri's research focuses on developing novel therapies and biomarkers for genitourinary malignancies, particularly renal cell carcinoma. Through landmark studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine, he has helped define the modern treatment landscape for metastatic disease, contributing to the approval of multiple targeted and immunotherapy combinations.
Choueiri joins 47 other AAP members affiliated with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
