Drink driving in Katherine

Northern Territory Police have charged a 43-year-old learner driver with high range drink driving in Katherine over the weekend.

At around 5pm Sunday, police observed a vehicle being driven erratically on Bicentennial Road. The driver was apprehended for a road side breath test and taken to Katherine Police Station where he returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.295.

The man was charged with:

  • high range drink driving
  • failing to display 'L' plates

He was bailed to appear in Lajamanu Court on 16 March 2021.

Superintendent Craig Garland said, "It is extremely disappointing that we have members of our community continuing to drink and drive. We as a community are dealing with the trauma of a recent road fatality where alcohol was involved. To be almost six times over the limit is simply inexcusable and extremely dangerous."
