A man will face court today after he allegedly assaulted police, crashed into several cars and failed to exchange details in Sydney's west overnight.
About 11.20pm (Sunday 10 May 2026), emergency services responded to reports of a Toyota SUV crashing into an unoccupied car on Maugham Crescent, Wetherill Park.
On arrival, officers attached to Fairfield City Police Area Command were told several bystanders removed the Toyota driver – a 35-year-old man – from the car before it ignited.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze.
Police were then informed that prior to the crash the Toyota had allegedly crashed into a Mercedes coupe on Hassel Street, being driven by a 64-year-old man.
The SUV has then allegedly driven from the scene before crashing into a second Toyota SUV – driven by a 41-year-old man – on The Horsley Drive, before finally crashing in Maugham Crescent.
On both occasions the 35-year-old man allegedly did not stop or exchange particulars with the other drivers.
Neither the 64-year-old or the 41-year-old were injured during the crashes.
Police arrested the 35-year-old man at the scene; however, during the arrest he allegedly bit an officer on the leg and refused to submit to a roadside breath test.
The officer was assessed; however, did not require hospital treatment.
The man was taken to Cabramatta Polic Station where he was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty, not keep left of oncoming vehicle-motor vehicle, refuse or fail to submit to breath test, and refuse to submit to breath analysis after arrest.
He was refused bail to appear before Fairfield Local Court today (Monday 11 May 2026).
