Driver of stolen car arrested at Monarto, South Australia

A driver was arrested after crashing a stolen car at Monarto while allegedly trying to evade police.

The stolen grey Kia sedan was pursued several times overnight. It was first spotted on Mawson Road, Meadows about 1.20am on Saturday 25 June. It was pursued in the Meadows area before the patrol lost sight of it and the pursuit was terminated.

About 2.10am, a Murray Bridge patrol located the same car heading north on Brinkley Road, Murray Bridge. Again, the driver refused to stop.

The car was pursued around the Callington and Monarto area before the pursuit was again terminated at 2.40am.

Just after 3am, police successfully spiked the car's tyres on Pallamana Road, Monarto. The car left the road and collided with a tree.

The driver, a 28-year-old man from Morphett Vale, was taken to the Murray Bridge Hospital with a sore shoulder.

He was charged with illegal use, drive with unassigned plates, drive disqualified and engage in a police pursuit. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on Monday 27 June.

The Kia sedan was towed from the scene. It had been reported stolen from a Kilburn address on 16 June.
