In a bid to change the way people see and talk about recycling, Wingecarribee Shire Council and the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens are calling for expressions of interest from people looking to exhibit in this year's Earth Hour celebrations and for local organisations and businesses to attend as stallholders.
Sculpture in the Gardens is a competition and exhibition featuring art made from recyclable materials.
Cecilia Kemp, Council's Coordinator Sustainability Services, said it was designed to change the way people see and talk about waste and recycling.
"Artists have long been using recycled objects to turn everyday trash into creative treasures," she said. "We're looking for sculptures made from at least 80 per cent recycled material to promote just how beautiful recycling can be."
Prizes will be awarded for both 'Open' and 'School' categories.
First prize for established, emerging or new artists is $2,500 with a Highly Commended and People's Choice award also on offer.
In the School category, first prize comprises of a sustainability assessment and workshop plus selected plants to the value of $100. Highly Commended and People's Choice nominations will also be awarded.
