Elderly woman dies in house fire in North Strathfield

An investigation is underway following a house fire in North Strathfield tonight that’s left an elderly woman with fatal injuries, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called to Lorraine Street about 10.40pm (Monday 17 December 2018) following reports that a house was on fire.

On arrival emergency services found the premises engulfed in flames.

A woman believed to be aged in her 90s was found inside the home and was rescued by Fire and Rescue NSW officers.

She was suffering critical injuries and sadly was unable to be revived.

Her son, who lives opposite, became aware of the fire and went to his mother’s aid.

He suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation as he attempted to extinguish the fire.

He was also taken to Concord Hospital for further treatment.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway by detectives from Burwood Police Area Command.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
