Employment checks at Royal Show

WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety

Private Sector Labour Relations industrial inspectors were at the Perth Royal Show this year to conduct a proactive compliance campaign.

The campaign focussed on ensuring state system employers were paying staff correctly, keeping correct employment records and on the employment of children under 15 years.

Private Sector Labour Relations is responsible for ensuring all businesses in the state system comply with the legal obligations regarding pay rates, leave entitlements and employment record keeping requirements and that all WA employers comply with laws relating to the employment of children under the age of 15 years.

During the campaign, inspectors spoke with business owners regarding child employment, talked to state system employers and issued notices requiring businesses to provide employment records for assessment.

Industrial inspectors will continue to conduct unannounced site visits in industries known for high levels of non-compliance such as cafes and restaurants.

Visit the Compliance and enforcement page for information on compliance activities and the role and powers of industrial inspectors.
