Energy efficient, environmentally friendly apartments ready for social housing in Perth's north

  • Eight families will soon be housed off the State's public housing waitlist with a new social housing apartment complex having just reached completion in Perth's north.

    The three-storey building comprises of eight two bedroom, one bathroom apartments, and incorporates energy efficient and environmentally friendly design and construction.

    The Innaloo complex was built with a timber-frame construction method which is faster and more environmentally friendly than traditional brick construction.

    All apartments feature double glazed windows which will ensure energy efficiency and reduce sound transmission. 

    The complex has been built close to local transport, shops, services and parks.

    Construction commenced late last year with the project supporting more than 70 jobs, including trade subcontractors and building suppliers.

    The development was constructed by Western Australian company Rapley Wilkinson Pty Ltd.

    The McGowan Government will invest $2.1 billion on social housing in the coming four years which will include the delivery of around 3,300 new homes.

    Right now across WA there are around 650 new social homes under construction.

    The McGowan Government is also investing in a program of modular construction which will deliver an additional 200 social homes across the State, including 150 in regional WA.

    As stated by Housing Minister John Carey:

    "The completion of this fantastic development in Innaloo shows our determination to help meet the high demand for social housing and provide people with comfortable, well designed and constructed homes in which to live.

    "These apartments are not only close to important amenities, including Stirling train station and Westfield Innaloo shops, but also incorporate energy efficient and environmentally friendly design.

    "The McGowan Government is investing $2.1 billion into social housing over the next four years, which includes the recently announced record investment of $875 million as part of the 2021-22 State Budget.

    "This is the single largest, one-off investment into social housing in the State's history." 

    As stated by Scarborough MLA Stuart Aubrey:

    "It's absolutely essential we do what we can to provide housing to vulnerable people in our community.

    "It's fantastic we have a really well located apartment complex that will provide housing to eight vulnerable families and individuals in Perth's north."
