Ex-Incels Seek Online Help to Overcome Misogyny

Monash University

A Monash University expert is available to discuss his new report The (de-)radical(-ising) potential of r/IncelExit and r/ExRedPill published in the European Journal of Cultural Studies.

The two Reddit forums discussed in this report offer individuals from the 'incels' and 'red pill' movements a space to find social support as they attempt to rehabilitate and move past their misogynistic beliefs.

The report proposed these forums could help some men and boys de-radicalise from the manosphere, or avoid being radicalised by these belief-systems to begin with.

The 'manosphere' refers to a collection of diverse but interconnected Internet communities that are united by their staunchly anti-feminist and misogynistic beliefs, with the nomenclature of both 'pill' ideologies taking inspiration from a scene in The Matrix.
