Fail to Comply with a Direction Charge in Perth 1 January

A 25-year-old man has been arrested, charged and refused bail after failing to comply with a COVID quarantine direction upon arriving in Western Australia.
The South Australian man was approved to enter Western Australia as an Australian citizen returning from working overseas, via the G2G Pass system. He arrived at Perth Airport on Tuesday 26 December 2020, on a flight from Dubai, and was issued a direction to quarantine for 14 days at a WA Government-managed hotel in Perth.
About 10:45pm last night, Thursday 31 December 2020, police officers, who due to recent changes to security arrangements are now temporarily based at WA Government-managed quarantine hotels until appropriately qualified security guards commence duty, received information from security staff at the hotel that the man had left his allocated hotel room and was refusing to follow their direction to return to his room.
The man was intercepted by those police officers in the hotel's lobby area on the ground floor of the building. The man was arrested and relocated to the Perth Watch House.
A 25-year-old man from South Australia has been charged with 'Failed to Comply with a Direction'. He was refused police bail and appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Friday 1 January 2021. Following the court appearance, court bail was granted and he is next due to appear in the same court on Monday 11 January 2021. He is now in a high-security quarantine facility pending the court appearance.
