Fourth Arab Food Systems Meeting: Coordinating Action

As the 2030 Agenda deadline approaches, Arab countries face growing pressure to accelerate the transformation of food systems in response to climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, malnutrition, and rising inequality. On 6 and 7 May, ESCWA and its partners held in Cairo the fourth Arab Food Systems Transformation meeting, focusing on translating commitments into concrete action.

Discussions revolved around mobilizing investment and financing, strengthening coordination around national pathways, and aligning efforts with the SDGs and climate priorities. Held amid mounting pressure on food systems, it emphasized the need to enhance resilience, improve food security and nutrition, and support sustainable livelihoods against climate shocks, water scarcity, economic pressures, and conflict-related fragility.

Bringing together United Nations agencies, regional institutions, civil society, youth, financial institutions, and the private sector, the meeting underscored the urgency of advancing implementation through stronger coordination, aligned partnerships, and investment-ready actions.
