Detectives have laid a further six charges against four members of an alleged international organised theft syndicate as investigations continue into break-ins across Sydney.
In November 2018, detectives from the State Crime Command's Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Merengue to investigate 80 aggravated break-ins across Sydney throughout September, October and November.
Inquiries led investigators to examine the activities of an organised theft syndicate, which also included shoplifting at designer stores across Sydney.
Eight members of the group, who are all Chilean Nationals, were arrested throughout November and December and remain before the courts.
Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators laid an additional charge of aggravated break and enter against a 22-year-old man, a 29-year-old man, and a 36-year-old woman, with a 23-year-old man being charged with three counts of aggravated break and enter yesterday (Monday 21 January 2019).
Police will allege in court that the charges relate to the men and woman breaking into and stealing jewellery and luxury items from homes in Castle Hill, Wahroonga, Turramurra, and Pymble in October and November 2018.
The 23-year-old man remains in custody to re-appear at Central Local Court today (Tuesday 22 January 2019).
The 22-year-old man, 28-year-old man, and 36-year-old woman remain in custody to re-appear at Burwood Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 23 January 2019).
Investigations are continuing, which includes working with Chilean authorities to locate the stolen items.
