Gair Landsborough has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Western Power.
A nation leading energy expert, Mr Landsborough will play an integral role in managing Western Australia's main electricity network as the State transitions to a clean energy future.
Mr Landsborough brings more than 30 years of technical and operational experience to the role.
The current acting CEO of Western Power, Mr Landsborough has successfully led key changes to WA's energy sector operations, from the way power is generated, stored and delivered, to its use by industry, business and the community.
He led Western Power's industry reform activity, working towards the State Government's goal to reach net zero by 2050.
This work informed the South West Interconnected System Transmission Plan which is expanding network capacity for renewable generation connection.
His appointment followed a competitive international recruitment process.
As stated by Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"Gair's extensive background and knowledge of WA's unique network - one of the world's largest island grids - makes him an ideal candidate to run Western Power as we transition to a clean energy future.
"He has been instrumental in the Cook Labor Government's Clean Energy Link transmission projects, which are transforming WA into a renewable energy powerhouse.
"Importantly he has been a strong advocate for improved power reliability initiatives for regional communities delivering alternative solutions such as microgrids and stand-alone power systems.
"With an unwavering commitment to safety and employee advocacy, and extensive technical understanding of WA's unique network, he is the right person to lead Western Power."
