Game-changing Digital Health Systems Completed

  • $247 million invested to modernise WA Health's medical record system
  • Rollout of Single Sign On and Digital Medical Record systems completed
  • Systems improve digital capabilities, safety, and efficiency for WA clinicians and patients

The Cook Labor Government is transforming healthcare delivery through a significant investment in WA Health's medical record system.

The completion of single sign on (SSO) and digital medical record (DMR) systems are major milestones in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Program.

WA Health's statewide roll out of the systems enhances the digital capability that supports the delivery of care to communities.

These initiatives, completed in August 2025, are improving healthcare services by making them more connected and efficient.

The SSO, commenced in February 2023, simplifies the login process for clinicians, providing access to around 90 clinical applications with the tap of a card.

The DMR, which digitises paper-based patient records, ensures clinicians have real time access to complete, up-to-date patient records, in WA Health facilities across the State.

The systems are now live across WA Health sites, including those in Metropolitan Perth, Mid West, Kimberley, Wheatbelt, Great Southern, South West, and Pilbara.

As of July 2025, 44 million documents have been digitised, and approximately 13,000 WA Health staff access the system on a typical weekday.

The SSO system, is used by 27,000 clinicians across WA Health with 348,000 logins per week, reducing time clinicians spend logging into their systems, allowing them to focus more on patient care.

The $247 million investment in the EMR Program to date, including the $104 million allocated in the 2024-25 State Budget, highlights the State Government's strong commitment to progressing the next phase, which includes the planning and procurement of a comprehensive Electronic Medical Record system.

As stated by Health Minister Meredith Hammat:

"This significant milestone is about modernising and improving healthcare right across our State.

"Western Australia is geographically the largest health jurisdiction in the world, and these technologies help to bring us closer together and improve patient care.

"These innovations will help ensure that WA Health remains at the forefront of modern healthcare delivery for our community."
