Bayside Council is examining ways to introduce a garden wildlife program that will encourage residents to support and protect the urban biodiversity in the area.
"Our beautiful bushland areas are home to a variety of native plants and animals," Mayor Dr Christina Curry said.
"We hope to extend this biodiversity by encouraging home gardeners to provide an area of native habitat in their gardens."
Bayside Council is looking to emulate similar successful garden wildlife programs that encourage residents to provide an area in their gardens for local wildlife.
A backyard, community garden, school veggie patch, green rooftop or even a pot plant on a balcony, can help promote urban biodiversity.
Council's wildlife garden program will provide support and advice for anyone wanting to establish and area in their garden that will support local wildlife diversity.
Native gardens provide food, water, and shelter for native wildlife and residents involved in the program would help boost local nature and provide sanctuary for local threatened species.
