Gary Mehigan Joins as Healthy Food Ambassador

Gary Mehigan

With a shared love of healthy food and lifestyle, we're delighted to welcome renowned chef and TV personality, Gary Mehigan, as an ambassador for our Institute.

Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute has been changing the face of healthcare through pioneering research for nearly 100 years. And, with our centenary just around the corner in 2026, we're excited to partner with Gary to share our evidence-based health information with the wider community.

As well as looking to solve the biggest health challenges in heart disease, diabetes and obesity, the Baker Institute is also highly active in the prevention space. Did you know we're home to hundreds of scientists, clinicians, data scientists, physical activity experts, dietitians and diabetes educators who are all working together to improve health?

This includes undertaking pioneering medical research to detect debilitating disease before it strikes, as well as sharing evidence-based health and lifestyle information to promote wellbeing and disease prevention.

Gary also has firsthand knowledge of the importance of heart health. As someone living with Atrial Fibrillation, the most common heart rhythm disorder, Gary understands the importance of evidence-based treatment and a healthy lifestyle. That's why we're delighted to be working with Gary to help share this trusted information.

Baker Institute Director, Professor John Greenwood, says there's a lot of information in the health and lifestyle space, particularly online, and it's hard to know who to trust.

"Our scientists, clinicians and educators work at the cutting-edge of research and many also work in clinical settings, like our diabetes clinic which is one of the largest in the southern hemisphere," he says. "We want to share this evidence-based information to help people live healthier for longer in the community.

We know that even small changes can make an enormous difference to your health. This might be as simple as standing up at work or on public transport to break up your sitting time. Our research shows that just standing more and sitting less improves disease markers of blood pressure and blood glucose.

And did you know frozen veggies are not only convenient and last longer but have the same nutritional benefits. Like Gary, we're all for quick, hassle-free, healthy meals. And, to help provide that extra culinary inspiration, Gary will be producing some healthy recipes which we look forward to sharing with you very soon.
