Generous Donor Makes Bayside Boarding School Possible for Girls from Regional Victoria

Firbank Grammar School

Firbank Grammar School announced today that in response to a generous bequest from a former student, twenty scholarships will be available for girls from regional areas to attend boarding school in Melbourne's Bayside area at Firbank Grammar School, located in Brighton.

Noelle Schollenberger, who left the money to the school, was born in Brighton and attended Firbank in the 1930s. The school says she was committed to girls' education and has created means-tested scholarships in her name, enabling girls who would typically not attend school in the city to do so.

With over 700 senior school students, the school is metres from the beach, has a rowing team, swimming centre, gym, sports facilities, world-class arts and music centres, science labs, computer technology facilities and more.

Principal Jenny Williams said that one of Firbank's fundamental principles is to 'action kindness' and that this was a way to demonstrate that. She said that "while here in Melbourne, we know we were locked down hard, and the regions have done it particularly tough". "It is not only time to open up the state again but to open our hearts and facilities to the broader Victorian community that has been unable to access schools such as ours."
