The Victorian Greens have said Infrastructure Victoria's 30-year strategy should now compel the state government to finally develop and publish an overarching, integrated transport plan in Victoria.
Publishing a transport plan was one of Infrastructure Victoria's key recommendations.
The Greens will soon introduce a bill that would ensure the government publishes the transport plan it is required to have by law, and to include targets for emissions and pollution reduction.
As stated by Victorian Greens transport spokesperson, Sam Hibbins MP:
"The VAGO report into Major Infrastructure Program Delivery Capability and Infrastructure Victoria's 30-year infrastructure plan highlight the need for a transport plan for Victoria.
"The Greens will be moving a bill to compel the government to publish the transport plan they are required to develop by law, and to include targets for emissions and pollution reduction.
"Many of the initiatives outlined in Infrastructure Victoria's plan such as publishing a transport plan for Victoria, building Metro 2, building safe bike networks across Melbourne and regional cities, accelerating the uptake of electric vehicles, building more social housing, and increasing tree canopy coverage have been championed by the Greens for many years.
"Getting infrastructure right is critical to action on climate, environment and social justice."
