The National Soil Carbon Innovation Challenge aims to encourage industry and researchers to develop lower-cost, accurate technological solutions for soil organic carbon measurement.
The Challenge provides funding for projects to develop and trial innovative soil organic carbon measurement technologies across a range of Australian agricultural landscapes and production systems.
In addition to reducing net greenhouse gas emissions, sequestering carbon in soils improves farm productivity and crop yields through better nutrient and water retention, and boosts resilience to drought and erosion.
Grants of $500,000 to $5 million are available from a total $20 million.
Improving low cost and accurate soil carbon measurement will support more land managers to participate in carbon farming and contribute to Australia's legislated commitment to reducing emissions by 43% by 2030 and to net zero by 2050.
The National Soil Carbon Innovation Challenge is one of the Australian Government's programs aimed at Improving soil carbon storage and measurement.
The National Soil Carbon Innovation Challenge Development and Demonstration grant round 2 is open until 11 April 2023.
