- Development application approved by the WAPC Statutory Planning Committee for the 30-dwelling community development in Busselton
- Brown Street site will offer mix of social and affordable housing options
- Part of the State Government's $5.1 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures
The Cook Government's continued delivery of social and affordable housing in regional Western Australia has taken a step forward with the development application for the Brown Street development in Busselton being approved by the Western Australian Planning Commission Statutory Planning Committee this week.
The proposed development on Brown Street in Busselton will offer a mix of social and affordable housing options close to the town centre and local support services.
The 2,034 square metre development site is part of the State Government's investment to maximise the potential of unused government land to bolster social and affordable housing.
The development application approval allows Housing Choices WA, the chosen proponent to develop and operate the site, to progress to the next stage of detailed design and preparation for project delivery.
Housing Choices WA, in partnership with the State Government through DevelopmentWA, will deliver a high-quality residential development that integrates with the neighbourhood.
The development will be built to Silver Liveable standards with a minimum 6-star NathERS rating.
Housing Choices WA anticipates construction to commence in early 2026 and be completed within 18 months. Upon construction completion, Housing Choices WA will provide tenancy, maintenance and placemaking services for the building and its residents.
Housing Choices WA is an independent not-for-profit community housing provider managing vibrant communities and neighbourhoods for 3,000 Western Australians in the Perth, Peel, and South West regions.
As stated by Planning and Lands and Housing and Works Minister John Carey:
"The Cook Labor Government is doing everything we can to boost social and affordable housing supply across the State.
"By partnering with the community housing sector, we are continuing to deliver in regional Western Australia with projects like the Brown Street, Busselton project.
"This well-located site in Busselton will offer and create an accessible and affordable housing project for one of the South West's busiest communities and will be constructed and operated by preferred proponent Housing Choices WA.
"Approval of the development application for the Brown Street project brings the much-needed supply of social and affordable housing one step closer for the Busselton community.
