NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a hazard reduction burn in Columbey State Conservation Area east of Paterson on Thursday 24 November 2022.
National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Area Manager Anthony Signor said the purpose of the burn is to reduce fuel loads in the State Conservation Area nearby private properties in the vicinity of Dunns Creek Road and Red Hill Trail.
'The burn will begin around 10am, with further burning, mop up and patrol continuing on Friday,' said Mr Signor.
'Our NPWS crews of professionally trained fire fighters will be working on trails within Columbey State Conservation Area for the duration of the burn.
'People are reminded to exercise caution and follow directions of NPWS crews if driving on roads in the area.
'If you are vulnerable to smoke, we encourage you to stay indoors and keep your doors and windows closed to reduce exposure.
'This burn is one of the many that we're working hard to carry out in national parks across the Hunter and Central Coast region during spring,' said Mr Signor.
Hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect the parks, neighbours and communities from future bushfires.
Regular monitoring of weather and fire-ground conditions, enables the NPWS to adjust planning leading up to and immediately prior to commencement of every burn which may require rescheduling burns as required.
All burns across New South Wales will continue to be coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) to ensure the impact on the community, including from smoke, are assessed at a regional level.
