  • Project marks the final stage of the Cook Government's $6.9 million expansion of the Hillarys cycle network
  • Cook Government committed to supporting active, healthy lifestyles with more than $750 million invested to expand WA's active transport network since 2017

Work has begun to upgrade around 2.6 kilometres of shared path between Ocean Reef Marina and Burns Beach, marking the final stage of the Cook Government's $6.9 million expansion of Hillarys' cycle network.

The path runs along Ocean Reef Road and will provide a safer and more comfortable walking and riding experience for people of all ages and abilities.

This path marks the final project to be delivered as part of the Cook Government's Hillarys Cycle Network program, which will expand the local network by more than 10 kilometres once complete.

The coastal connection will link locals and visitors to the beach and other recreational attractions, as well as local cafes and businesses, supporting the local economy and creating a more vibrant precinct.

Since 2017, the Cook Government has invested more than $750 million towards expanding WA's active transport network - the largest ever investment by a WA State Government.

Expanding WA's active transport network is part of the Cook Government's commitment to promoting active healthy lifestyles.

The path is due for completion in mid-2026.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Expanding the Hillarys cycle network will make it easier and safer for locals to ride or walk to the beach, school, work or the shops.

"High-quality shared paths are critical to supporting active lifestyles and community wellbeing, as well as reducing congestion in our suburbs.

"Our government is proud to be investing at record levels to expand our active transport network to support more Western Australians to walk, wheel and ride around our State."

As stated by Hillarys MLA Caitlin Collins:

"The Cook Government is proud to be delivering on our $6.9 million commitment to expand Hillarys' cycle network, providing more walking and riding opportunities for our community.

"It's exciting to see work begin on the final stage of this vision which once complete will unlock more than 10 kilometres of new and upgraded shared paths across our suburbs.

"This means more opportunities for locals and visitors to stay active, explore our incredible coastline, and support our local businesses."
