HKU is ranked World Number One for Education and Educational Research by U.S. News & World Report

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is ranked first globally in the latest 2022-2023 Best Global Universities for Education and Educational Research, published by the global authority in education rankings U.S. News & World Report. Among the 182 universities ranked, HKU received the subject score of 100 and is ranked number one in the world. Other universities in the top five are: 2) Michigan State University, 3) Stanford University, 4) University College London, and 5) Deakin University and Harvard University.

HKU is number one in Education and Educational Research, a new subject area ranking recently added this year, having a 200-paper threshold for the period of 2016 to 2020, with 182 universities ranked for the analysis and 100 ranked universities published in the 47 subject areas used. This new category of Education and Educational Research is considered as soft sciences, and the methodology is based on academic research performance data for various bibliometric measures, including publications (12.5%), total citations (15%), and number of publications among the 10% most cited (15%).

The Faculty of Education, HKU, has always been ranked in top ten in major global University Rankings by Subject. The Faculty is ranked fifth globally in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023 by Subject, rising one place in 2023.

The ninth annual U.S. News Best Global Universities rankings examine the leaders in key academic subject areas. U.S. News published the top global universities in 47 subject areas in almost 100 countries, in addition to ranking 2,000 of the world's leading universities across more than 90 countries.
