Hobart set to welcome inaugural kunanyi Mountain Run Festival

Minister for Hospitality and Events

Madeleine Ogilvie,

Trail runners from across Australia will be making their way south this weekend for the inaugural kunanyi Mountain Run Festival, Hobart's first national scale trail running event.

This Government is a proud supporter of events in our state, especially when they allow our state to be showcased to people from around the country.

Trail running is a rapidly expanding global adventure activity and Tasmania's vast wilderness tracks provide an ideal setting for the sport.

Taking place from the 8 – 10 of April 2022, the kunanyi Mountain Run Festival aims to be an immersive celebration of Hobart's mountain and Tasmania's way of life, comprising of cultural activities and world class trail running events.

The festival will also have a special focus on kunanyi's Indigenous stories and connecting with Tasmanian Aboriginal heritage.

We are proud to support kunanyi Mountain Run Festival through the Event Ready and Event Marketing Tasmania programs managed by Events Tasmania.

The event has also received grant funding from the Australian Government under the Recovery for Regional Tourism program, an initiative of the $1 billion COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Fund.

Nearly 900 runners will participate in the inaugural festival and take on challenges such as the 68 km Ultra-Marathon (solo or relays), the 28 km Mountain or the Vertical Kilometre – covering 1 km of alleviation over a 5 km distance.

The festival RunHub will be located at Wellesley Park, South Hobart and visitors and locals are encouraged to participate in the activities taking place at the RunHub over the course of the festival.

I congratulate the organisers on their work to deliver such a fantastic event for Tasmania and wish all the competitors every success as they race through our wilderness.
