Holsworthy's Fairy Glen gets happily ever after

Liverpool City Council has officially opened the Fairy Glen at Harris Creek Reserve, inviting parents in Holsworthy and surrounding areas to continue the magic which brought joy to a community living under stringent lockdown restrictions.

Mayor of Liverpool Ned Mannoun was joined by Liverpool City Councillors, leaders of the 'fairy council' and members of the broader community for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was followed by a community event complete with fairy floss and fairy-themed activities.

The opening of the Fairy Glen followed a unanimous endorsement by Council in its October meeting last year, in response to a groundswell of support from the local community to make the Fairy Glen a permanent feature for families to enjoy.

Mayor Mannoun expressed how amazing this journey involving Council, local parents and the broader community has been.

"What started out as a way for parents to bring magic into their children's lives during lockdown has grown into something more.

"I want to acknowledge the work done in the previous term of Council in bringing this project to life. Fairy Glen will be a unique feature of Holsworthy for many years to come, and something the broader Local Government Area can be proud of."

Over the last few months, Council staff regularly engaged with the newly established 'fairy council', comprised of residents behind the original Fairy Glen, to ensure the new permanent Fairy Glen was environmentally sustainable.

Families wanting to contribute their own fairy doors and decorations to Holsworthy's Fairy Glen are now required to follow guidelines for materials and installation methods to ensure the environmental impact is minimal.

"While this initiative has been community-led, Council provided their internal expertise around the best ways to protect the environment.

"The Fairy Glen is a testament to what is possible from thoughtful collaborations between Council and the broader community," Mayor Mannoun said.
