Important Upgrades At Broadmeadows Hospital

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is boosting access to healthcare in Melbourne's growing north, investing in important infrastructure upgrades at Broadmeadows Hospital.

Minister for Health Infrastructure Mary-Anne Thomas today visited Broadmeadows Hospital to announce the Northern Health will receive $2.6 million from the latest round of the Metropolitan Health Infrastructure Fund (MHIF) - helping to deliver critical structure upgrades to the hospital.

The funding will see sections of the ageing roof replaced and repair works to ceilings and walls completed - improving safety for patients and staff. Flooring and carpets will also be replaced with lights and associated electrical systems upgraded.

These repairs will not only enhance safety, but will sustain and improve infrastructure assets at Broadmeadows Hospital to help provide an environment for the dedicated workforce to deliver contemporary models of care for patients.

Northern Health will also receive $250,000 towards the future surgical theatre upgrades at the Northern Hospital in Epping - supporting design of improvements to reduce infection risk.

Established by the Labor Government in 2020, MHIF is now valued at $265 million, with 110 projects funded across Melbourne to date - it helps metropolitan health and community services undertake vital infrastructure upgrades, including construction and refurbishment projects, equipment and technology upgrades and other essential works.

The latest round worth $40 million will fund 29 projects across 27 health across Melbourne so these services can continue to provide safe and efficient care to local communities.

The Regional Health Infrastructure Fund provides similar grants across Regional Victoria.
