Indonesia Connect Roadshow Stops at Poultry Feed Facility

  • Minister Jackie Jarvis along with primary industry delegation visit PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia
  • WA Government's Indonesia Connect Roadshow cultivating new market opportunities

Agriculture Minister Jackie Jarvis has visited one of Indonesia's largest livestock farming and agri-food companies, to discuss the benefits of importing Western Australian grain.

PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia (JAPFA) holds the second largest market share of the poultry feed sector in the country, accounting for 21 per cent of supply.

Its overall operations encompass poultry, aquaculture, beef cattle, and frozen food production.

During the visit, Minister Jarvis was involved in discussions on aquaculture feed manufacturing at JAPFA, which produces a wide range of feed for marine water fish and shrimp.

Since 2000, fish from aquaculture production in Indonesia, has increased at an average annual rate of more than 12 per cent, compared with growth in wild-caught fish of just under 3 per cent.

It is estimated that by 2030, an extra 8.7 million tonnes of feed grains and meals, will be needed each year to meet the demand for meat and fish in Indonesia.

Australian wheat, barley, lupins, and canola meal are well suited to the nutritional requirements of the Indonesian feed systems.

As stated by Agriculture Minister Jackie Jarvis:

"Last year, Indonesia was ranked as WA's third largest export market for primary industries, with exports totalling over $1.3 billion."

"Thank you to JAPFA for the opportunity to tour their facilities, and discuss what WA can offer in terms of feed grain."

"These important international meetings have all been made possible due to the Indonesia Connect Roadshow, which is allowing WA businesses to make connections firsthand."
