Investigation commenced after elderly man assaulted at Wagga Wagga

Police are investigating the assault of an elderly man in Wagga Wagga at the weekend.

About 11.20pm Sunday (6 June 2021), an 86-year-old man heard a knock on the wall of his home on Mair Street, Turvey Park.

The man opened the front door and was confronted by another man who punched him to the face and then fled on foot.

NSW Ambulance Paramedics were called and treated the man at the scene for a suspected fractured nose before he was taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, where he is being monitored for a bleed on the brain.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District were notified and have commenced an investigation.

As investigations continue, police have released CCTV just prior to the incident, and are appealing for information to help locate a man who may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, between 40-45 years old, with a slim build, medium length scruffy hair and a beard.

At the time, he was wearing a denim jacket, black pants and joggers.
