IOP Publishing brings international quantum science community together virtually

High profile Quantum 2020 conference to be livestreamed over four days

IOP Publishing and the Institute of Physics, in partnership with the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), will host their first virtual Quantum conference in October 2020. Bringing together early career and established researchers from industry, academia and government worldwide, Quantum 2020 will represent some of the most cutting-edge directions in quantum science and technology today.

Held over four days from Monday 19 to Thursday 22 October 2020, talks and discussion panels featuring leading experts in the field will be livestreamed. Attendees will exchange knowledge and collaborate on the latest research and emerging areas of interest in quantum communications, sensing, computing and technology in industry. In addition, the conference will feature a virtual poster session where researchers can present and discuss their work with peers.

The conference's honorary chair is Professor Jian-Wei Pan, of USTC, and the international advisory committee features leading researchers from around the world including Gilles Brassard, University of Montreal; Michelle Simmons, University of New South Wales; and Anton Zeilinger, University of Vienna, Austria

Antonia Seymour, Publishing Director at IOP Publishing said: "We're looking forward to a lively four-day online experience as the global quantum science community comes together from across the world to learn, connect, and discuss through streamed keynotes."

Professor Chao-Yang Lu, from USTC, is the chair of the organising committee. He said: "We're delighted to be partnering with the Institute of Physics and IOP Publishing to help make this event happen. The inspiring agenda will combine the knowledge and perspectives of scientific experts from both academia and industry. We're excited to be a part of it."

Professor Paul Hardaker, Chief Executive of the Institute of Physics, said: "Supporting researchers to innovate and learn is fundamental to what the IOP does, so we're extremely pleased to be able to play our part in hosting this conference. It's also particularly fitting that a conference for one of the most technologically advanced fields in science is taking place virtually. We hope it will prove both useful and enjoyable."

Among the confirmed plenary speakers so far are:

  • Sergio Boixo, Google, USA
  • Steve Girvin, Yale University, USA
  • Dietrich Leibfried, NIST, USA
  • Miles Padgett, University of Glasgow, UK
  • Cheng-Zhi Peng, University of Science and Technology China, China
