New biannual government data, which tables consulting contracts worth over $2 million, shows KPMG is raking in multimillion-dollar contracts despite the firm's numerous integrity, ethics and leadership failures.
The data reveals that as of 1 July 2026, KPMG held eight active large contracts worth $51.4 million between 1 January 2026 to 30 June 2026 with Defence, Finance, Home Affairs, Services Australia among other departments.
KPMG has admitted to multiple ethical failures at its most senior leadership levels, scandals that include misuse of confidential client information to win audit work and mistreatment of a whistleblower. Meanwhile, the Government continues to employ KPMG's services in the multi-millions.
The Greens say Labor needs to stop feeding the beast that is KPMG, follow its own Commonwealth Supplier Code of Conduct and reform the consultancy sector which is ripping off the Australian public.
As stated by Greens finance and public service spokesperson Senator Barbara Pocock:
"This government is failing its own first test in ignoring its own Code of Conduct. It is hopelessly addicted to KPMG. The sheer size of these contracts is further proof of Labor's dependence on KPMG.
"The Department of Finance alone has three multimillion-dollar contracts worth over $25m combined - the same department that is investigating KPMG for its unethical behaviour.
"As scandal engulfs KPMG and it appoints long-term insiders to fill the shoes of the disgraced leadership, Australians want to know why KPMG is keeping multimillion-dollar government contracts and has not been removed from bidding panels.
"Labor promised to learn the lessons of the PwC scandal but its response to date is a disgrace and a failure. What is the message to cheats and liars?
"Labor needs to stop feeding the beast and get on with the job of reforming a sector gone rogue. These firms play by their own rule book where ethics fall at the prospect of a bucket of money, and the government does nothing about it.
"The Big 4 have lost their social licence. Australians have had enough of the repeated scandals. It's time to end the gravy train and properly regulate the Big 4.
"Labor has allowed them to massively profit at the trough of government consulting, while they avoid the tax, whistleblowing and other obligations of comparable large entities like corporations.
"The government needs to review all contracts with KPMG and ban dodgy firms from government work. It needs to properly regulate the Big 4, establish a consultant regulator and increase penalties for egregious behaviour and ethical failures."
