Labor welcomes new site for Northern Regional Prison development

Elise Archer,Attorney-General and Minister for Corrections

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to delivering on its election commitment to build a $270 million Northern Regional Prison.

This vital project will not only support more than 1000 jobs and deliver an economic boost of $500 million to the region, but it will help to significantly address the challenges facing the State's correctional system.

Yesterday Labor welcomed our decision in response to community feedback and I hope this means Labor will now stop its relentless negativity and finally support this important development that will drive jobs and investment in Northern Tasmania.

The Liberal Government has listened to the community and it's time Labor did the same by supporting the new site for this important project.

At a time when the State needs jobs more than ever before, we will deliver the Northern Regional Prison in an effective and timely manner.
