The Latrobe community and wider region will have access to water-based rehabilitation services with the re-opening of the redeveloped hydrotherapy pool at the Strathdevon Aged Care Facility.
The highly anticipated re-opening follows a $400,000 grant from the State Government.
Located at the Uniting AgeWell facility, the redeveloped hydrotherapy pool means that members of the community can once again enjoy access to warm water therapy and exercise.
The major features of the redevelopment include resealing of the pool, upgrades in the plant room, showers and change rooms.
A core aim of the redevelopment has been to create efficiencies to minimise operational costs, so the facility has the best chance to be financially sustainable in the long term.
It has included the installation of an energy-efficient heat pump, while instant gas hot water has replaced the old electric cylinder.
Additionally, the upgraded amenities will allow multiple users to access the pool, particularly those with specialist mobility needs.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff acknowledged the Latrobe Council for the work undertaken so that the facility can continue to be enjoyed by locals.
"The Tasmanian Liberal Government is proud to have delivered $400,000 in funding to redevelop the pool and I know that many locals will enjoy the health benefits for years to come," Premier Rockliff said.
Member for Braddon, Felix Ellis, officially reopened the pool today and thanked Tasmanian-owned company Fairbrother who undertook the renovations.
"It's great to see a local Tasmanian firm getting the job done for us and delivering another outstanding facility to benefit the community," Mr Ellis said.
The council has engaged Deepwater Swim School to operate the pool on its behalf and will open to the first clients on 16 May 2022.
