Local Artist Tara Darcy's Art Brightens New Light Poles

Darwin City Council

One existing and three new light poles installed at the Nightcliff jetty carpark now showcase vibrant artwork from local artist Tara Darcy.

The light pole wraps feature colourful motifs from Tara's artwork Maningrida Community, including birds, turtles, people, houses and planes. Each design draws from her memories of growing up on the West Arnhem Land coast.

Tara is a member of Free Space Studio, a visual arts program for artists with disability. Free Space Studio is delivered by Arts Access Darwin as part of Darwin Community Arts and provides workshops, space, materials and professional opportunities. Since 2013, the studio has supported artists to grow their practice and share their work with the wider community.

In line with our Creative Strategy 2024 - 2030 goals, this project aims to elevate local First Nation's stories, culture and creativity; support Darwin artists with disability; and continue to nurture and amplify our city's creativity.

Tara's contribution adds colour and story to a much-loved local destination and promotes local artist's work.
