Local Primary Schools Invited To Become 'Lunchbox Heroes'

Primary schools across Campbelltown are being encouraged to join a community-wide effort to reduce single-use plastics as part of this year's Plastic Free July.

Students, teachers and school communities can become 'Lunchbox Heroes' by taking part in a Plastic-Free Lunch Challenge on Thursday, 30 July 2026.

The initiative allows students to take a closer look at the single-use plastics commonly found in lunchboxes and explore simple, practical swaps that can help reduce waste. From reusable drink bottles and lunch containers to unpackaged fruit and reusable snack tubs, the campaign focuses on small changes that can make a big difference over time.

"When schools across Campbelltown come together for a shared action like this, it demonstrates the powerful impact communities can have when working towards a common goal," Mayor Darcy Lound said.

"By participating in the Plastic-Free Lunch Challenge, students can become powerful advocates for change and help create healthier habits for both our environment and future generations of Campbelltown," Cr Lound said.

The Plastic-Free Lunch Challenge aligns with broader efforts to reduce waste, encourage sustainable behaviours and support a cleaner, greener future for the local community.

Council encourages all local primary schools to get involved and help inspire the next generation of environmental leaders, one lunchbox at a time.
