Global data from more than 1,300 universities included in the CWTS Leiden Ranking
The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) has been ranked the best university in the world for publishing open access research and top in the UK for the proportion of academic research with women listed as authors in the 2022 CWTS Leiden Ranking.
Between 2017 and 2020, 94% of LSHTM research was in open access publications. The gender split at LSHTM across publications was 48% female authors and 52% male.
LSHTM also claimed first position in the UK and 10th in the world for collaboration, with 68.6% of its publications including a collaborator over 5,000km away.
In addition, it was seventh in the UK and eighth in Europe for research impact in sciences, for the proportion of its total publications ranking in the top 10% of most cited research.
The 2022 CWTS Leiden Ranking, published by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University, measures the scientific performance of more than 1,300 major universities worldwide. It uses Web of Science data to rank universities based on the number and proportion of their publications that are highly cited.
